The players from the 2016 boys senior outdoor team expressed great interest in fielding an indoor soccer team for the upcoming winter season.
Games would be 6 v 6 (including goalkeepers) at the turf arena at Canlan Sportsplex in Mississauga. The tournament would consist of 8 teams, and each team would play 7 x 25 minute games in the regular season. The top four ranked teams would advance to the playoff semi-finals and classification matches. Awards would be provided to top players, regular season champions, as well as playoff finalists and champions.
Our squad breakdown would be as follows:
Goalkeepers: 1 per team
Defenders: 4 per team
Midfielders: 4 per team
Forwards: 2 per team
In fairness to all students, players who were on the junior or senior team in 2016 would be given priority. Our team would consist of 11 players, unless the option to field a second team was exercised. There would NOT be an extensive tryout process given that this tournament would be during the basketball season. The tentative date for this tournament would be during the university reading week in February. This would be similar to the tournament Coaches Aslett and Bruno organized in January 2014.
Coaches Aslett and Bruno encourage any students or parents who are interested in this initiative to inform the school this fall. Our coaches plan on running occasional showcase sessions during the year. Without the support of the school, this indoor season would not be possible!
